Spring in Big Bay

Did you wake up to bird song and bugs this morning? As the earth slowly wakes up after its long winter slumber we are greeted by the glory of budding trees, warmer weather and longer days. With the change of season comes a buzz of excitement in town — local events, tourists, and going outside without a wool cap!

Upcoming Events

Big Bay Stewardship Council’s 3rd Annual Dash for Trash is taking place May 4th, 2024 9am-2pm.

Pick up your garbage bags, PPE and register your team at Draver Park in the morning. All trash goes to Powell Transfer Station! Community Potluck to follow at Draver Park at 2pm!

Notes:

  • Individuals and/or teams must meet at Draver Park to register and pick up reflective vests.

  • CASH PRIZES for Largest Trash Haul, Most Unique Find and Team Spirit!

  • Large item disposal available through Powell Township Hall!

    • Please visit Township Hall during regular hours to sign up for your pass.

      • Powell Township Hall Hours: 9am-12pm Mondays and Thursdays

    • Large items may be disposed of at Powell Transfer Station on the day of the event only.

    • Items accepted: Mattress (twin/queen/king), box spring (twin/queen/king), loveseat, loveseat with mattress bed, sofa, sofa with mattress bed, lounge chairs, dining chairs, dresser (6 drawer), cabinets (2 door), sinks, animal cages, household doors (no frames), household patio doors, window (no frame), large rugs, ovens/cook stoves, microwaves. (no freon accepted!)

  • Tire disposal available through Superior Watershed Partnership!

    • Limit 10 tires per household, no limit for tires collected along trails and roads.

    • Bring tires to Transfer Station on the day of the event only for recycling.

    • Follow instructions from Transfer Station volunteers and staff for where to place tires.

Call for Artists! Are you a local artist/artisan/craftsman/creative/maker looking to share your work throughout town? The Big Bay Stewardship Council wants to hear from you! Send us an email at coordinator@bigbaystewardship.org and tell us what you do, link any social media or websites! We’d love to touch base!

Open Seats on BBSC Board! The BBSC currently has two open board seats: Secretary and Treasurer. If this is something you’re interested in, please fill out our questionnaire and we’ll get back to you!

BBSC membership is representative in nature of the entire community, including government, businesses, natural asset managers, non-profit organizations, recreational interest groups, full-time residents, second home owners, and more. We warmly welcome anyone interested in making Big Bay an even better place to live and visit.

While the goal of the BBSC is first and foremost to serve this community, properly scaled economic development and operational funding are necessary.
